Thursday, March 27th, 2008

wii.jpg

Ok, this little promotion ends tomorrow but I thought I would let you know about it. My Coke Rewards is giving away a 432 Wiis. To enter, all you need is to spend 3 My Coke points for an entry. You can enter up to 20 times each day.

If you are new to My Coke Rewards, look for red caps on 20 ounces or 2 liters. They will have a what is way too long of a code. Both the 20 oz. Cokes and 2 liters are worth 3 points. Fridge packs are worth 10 points. You can enter up to 10 codes each day. There is plenty of other swag you can redeem your points for as well. In fact, for a while they did have Nintendo Wiis for something like 3500 points but those are long gone.

All Wiis will be given away at the end of the promotion, which is tomorrow, March 28th.

Wacky Races will also be available for the Nintendo DS.

Donkey Kong Barrel Blast

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Donkey Kong Barrel Blast is one of those titles that shows that Nintendo really knows how to make a fun racing game. We all knew Mario Kart was great but now Nintendo has another shining jewel in their racing series.

dkscreen.jpg

Up to four people can race using both the Nunchuk and Wiimote controllers. You move the controller to bang on the drum that builds up your speed. The Nuchuk is held in the left hand and the Wiimote in the right. Once you are at top speed, you do not need to keep alternating hitting the drums. If you need to move to a side of the track, then move the appropriate controller. There are plenty of tutorials in the game that help you become accustomed to movement and other game play.

You can play either an individual race or race for in a cup event that includes several races. By coming in first, you open up more events as well as more characters. Once you have won a few cups in rookie mode, pro mode will then become unlocked. More characters will also be unlocked as you race through more of the game. Each race you will receive a grade. To unlock some items in the game you must score a good grade.

You will have a chance to pick up objects on each track to use to either help yourself or hinder your nearest opponent. My favorite would have to be the huge barrel. Just where do the racers keep it until they need it?

The tracks are interesting and entertaining. Plus the background music is very nice to listen to. Very enjoyable game for one or more players that makes good use of the Wii controllers. Donkey Kong Barrel Blast was a blast to play and loads of fun.

Super Smash = Super Headache for some Wii Owners

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

Apparently some Wii owners are having issues with their Wii not playing their new Super Smash Bros. Brawl discs. The culprit? You might remember this news from a few months back as it was a problem in Japan. The Wiis are having problems because of second hand smoke. Nintendo is saying that the Wii needs to be cleaned to read dual discs like Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Nintendo has offered to clean the affected Wiis at no charge. Only catch is you have to send in your Wii. So the wait to play that highly anticipated title just became a little longer.

Ultimate Band

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

Love rockin’ games like Rock Band but don’t want all those extra peripherals to deal with? A new game due out this fall for the Nintendo Wii will allow you to rock out with only using the Wii controllers.

Ultimate Band is being developed and will be released by Disney Interactive Studios. Disney is hoping to showcase all types of music in the game from classic rock to the most popular hits from today. The game will be geared toward tweens and teens.

ub_dynamic_venue.jpg

Players will build their own customized band. They will also see their career grow from playing in someone’s garage to some of the world’s finest venues. Players can rock out on guitar, drums, or even take on lead vocals all with using the Wii remote and Nunchuk. There will also be content that will be unlockable as players progress through the game like new songs and accessories.

Disney is working with some of the biggest names in the music industry to bring a wide selection of songs to Ultimate Band. Rock, alternative, indie, and emo are just a few of the styles that will likely have a spot in Ultimate Band. No specific details of songs that might be included have been released.
