There are some ignorant people out there (fanboys mostly) that would have you believe that the Wii is just for kids. Well The Godfather: Blackhand Edition is definitely not for kids or adults that happen to be pacifists. From the opening cut scene to the final mission blood, guns and barehanded assaults are never in short supply
This game is essentially a Wii-make having already been released for Windows, Xbox(360) and PS2 there is also a special “Don’s Edition” for PS3. What’s unique about the “Blackhand Edition” is of course the Wiis unique motion controls which have been integrated nicely I might add.
I did find the precision aiming a little wonkey and insensitive which seems to be common among most Wii games especially those made by a certain french developer which I will not name. The Godfather has a “lock-on” targeting system so the precision aiming didn’t get much use so I can’t really penalize EA for that.
On the surface the gameplays exactly like other crime sims. “Go here meet this dude, go here get this gun, go here kill this dude.” Nothing new well except for one thing. To generate income in the game you must shake down business and “rackets” so that they pay you tribute which you in turn hand over to the Corleone family less your percentage of course. There are lots of different ways for you to inflict harm on others punches kicks and gun-play are often the norm this is along with over 100 “execution styles” you can use to take out those troublesome “stoolies”.
The controls are familiar and intuitive. One uses the triggers to grab and then swings the Wii Remote to throw punches kind of like Wii Boxing only with a pistol in your hand. Moving on, I did notice some graphical popping and a few glitches here and there but nothing really to the detriment of the gameplay. The story was interesting but I won’t comment too much that seeing as how I have never seen the Godfather films. So if you are a fan of 1940s gangsters or just looking for a more grown up title to play after the kids have gone to bed pick up The Godfather: Blackhand Edition it is an offer you can’t refuse.
