Euro VC Update 04/06/07

Friday, April 6th, 2007

Vectorman.jpg3 new Sega titles hit the Euro VC this week. Myself who never owned a Genesis is really intrigued by Vectorman I’ve never played the game and it looks like it’s either a cool looking Mega Man clone or a Dude made of spheres who battles complex physics equations. It might be the first Genesis game I actually give a download. Once it hits in North America that is.

Sonic Spinball (Genesis, 800 Wii Points)
The Story of Thor (Genesis, 800 Wii Points)
VECTORMAN (Genesis, 800 Wii Points)

Happy Easter everyone!

PunchOutBox.jpgEuro’s VC exits march like a lion or should I say “Great Tiger”. That’s right Punch Out!! one of Wii Rally’s “Most Anticipated Virtual Console Games” drops on to the Euro VC Today. I don’t know why everyone says that Europe gets the shaft when it comes to games they always seem to get the primo VC releases before us here in the Americas or as olde school Brits would calls us “the Colonies”.

Punch-Out!! (NES,500 Wii Points)
The Legend of The Mystical Ninja (SNES,800 Wii Points)
Dragon’s Curse (TG-16, 600 Wii Points)

SplatterhouseTitle.pngGet ready to see red! 16 bit red blood that is. Splatterhouse hits the European Virtual Console today giving lapsed gamers a chance to play one of the first ridiculously violent games of the 16 bit era, I love you Turbografx.

Joining Splatterhouse are two other incredibly challenging NES titles. The never ending Ice Climbers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Even after many attempts when I was young and a few when I was older I have never managed to get past the 4th stage of TMNT. If anyone ever gets there could you please describe the Technodrome to me? For I have never seen it.

Ice Climber (NES, 500 Wii Points)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ( NES 500 Wii Points)
Splatterhouse (TG-16, 600 Wii Points)

DoubleDungeonsTitle.gif
At first glance it may look like the Euro VC has 1-up on the NA VC but rest assured that it is no typo that is not the case. I’m speaking of course about this weeks TG-16 title Double Dungeons which could easily be mistaken for Double Dragon but such is not the case. Oh how back in the day so many games had similar names. Such marketing kafuffles never seem to happen anymore. Wasn’t David Jaffe’s latest project’s name very close to “Crackdown” until it was changed to Calling All Cars? I think so.

Galaga (NES, 500 Wii Points)

Super Ghouls ‘N Ghosts (SNES, 800 Wii Points)

Double Dungeons (TG-16, 600 Wii Points)

Sword of Vermilion (Genesis 800 Wii points)
Bio Hazard Battle (Genesis 800 Wii points)
Streets of Rage (Genesis 800 Wii points)
Chew-Man-Fu (TG-16 600 Wii pointrs)

Encore je recommander Chew-Man-Fu. On doit cherchez la riz cantonais pour tout le monde.

Hey everyone just thought I would mix things up with a little bit of french for our European brethren. Don’t bother trying to correct it because I know it’s far from perfect and to be honest with you anybody who suggest that I change the spelling tends to get ignored anyway. So Enjoy the language of love.

Meanwhile back at the ranch

I know I haven’t done a Feature Friday in a couple weeks but I’m working on it so sit tight and brace yourself for it’s gracious return soon.

Wiikend Wrap Up February 19th - 25th

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

NeoGeo.jpgIt’s time for another Wiikend wrap up! (Applause)

A couple tidbits for you this weekend. First you may or may not have heard about the possibility of NeoGeo games coming to the Wii’s Virtual Console. According to CVG (Computer Video Games) Nintendo of Japan has confirmed they will be releasing an update to the Virtual Console allowing gamers to play NeoGeo and MSX games. Nintendo wouldn’t tell CVG whether Europe or North America would seeing this update. Now I’ve never owned a NeoGeo or an MSX but the more the merrier.

On to the wrap!

European VC Update 02/23/07

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

I told everyone that last week with the release of DK Country here in NA I wasn’t jealous of the Euro market anymore. Well my eyes turned green again this week with the latest Euro VC update.

Kid Icarus (NES, 500 Wii points)

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64, 1000 Wii points)

It is widely known throughout the games industry that the market most commonly screwed on prices, release dates and content is Europe. I guess that Nintendo is trying to make amends by giving them access to one of the most widely anticipated VC games, Ocarina of Time.

What interests me is not that the game is available in Europe but that it only costs 1000 Wii points not the previously rumored 1200 Wii points. Will we see a change in the price point for the NA release of the game on the VC? That remains to be seen but I sincerely hope not. Every one’s used to getting screwed by Msoft, Sony, EA et.al but when Nintendo screws you it hurts….deep down inside.

So will we finaly see OoT hit the NA market with the coming monday update? Check back on Monday to find out.

Europe Gets Zelda II et al.

Friday, February 9th, 2007

Super Mario World
(SNES 800 points)
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
(NES 500 points)
Vigilante
(TG-16/PC Engine 600 points)

Hey everyone sorry for the lateness of my post today but it’s my project week at school and I’ve been finishing up assignments all week. So since they are all sent off to my instructors I can tell you that Europe got a nice little treat today in the form of Virtual Console releases.

Lucky Euros got Zelda II before we did, I guess we shall see what pops up for North America on Monday. On a more personal note I sent a demo Gaming Podcast to the gods at 451 press, I haven’t hard anything yet but cross your fingers for me so I can keep the gaming goodness coming.

One more thing I’ve been having some release date issues with Cooking Mama: Cook Off I can’t seem to nail a hard release date for the title.

Release dates for Cooking Mama: Cook Off according to,

1up: 03/12/2007
GameSpot: Mar 20, 2007
GameStats: 06/30/07

I emailed Majesco’s (Cooking Mama’s North American publisher) PR department last night asking them to confirm the release date. So once they respond I will let all of you know when this highly anticipated game will hit North American shores.

Wii VC Update Europe 02/02/07

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

North America got them last week but this week Europe catches up with four new Virtual Console titles.

This week’s new releases are:

NES: (500 Wii Points)
Gradius (1 player)

SEGA Mega Drive: (800 Wii Points)
Bonanza Bros. (1-2 players)
Comix Zone (1 player)
Gain Ground (1-2 players)

Normally Europe’s Friday releases are a hint at what North America may be getting on Monday but North America got these titles last week. So I’ll guess we shall have to wait and see what Monday holds.
