Wii Fit

Wii Mommies

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

My Wii Fit is probably wondering where I’ve been lately. I know I have missed it but just have a problem getting back on track once I’ve fallen off of it.

Wii Mommies is a community for those who love the Wii and are using it to get in shape. They have Twitter parties and other fun stuff to help keep members on track. I’m afraid I may be hopeless. Not unless drive to your house and physically get in your face until you exercise. Now that type of support is what I really need.

Anyway I’m looking forward to exploring the website/forums to get motivated again.

Wii Fit Yoga

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

wiiyoga Lately I’ve been doing a lot of the Wii Fit yoga. I must admit that it’s becoming my favorite part of Wii Fit.

When I first bought Wii Fit, I stayed away from yoga and stuck mainly to the balance games. Then I branched out into the aerobics. But now I’ve been doing some of the yoga poses and actually enjoying it a lot. I feel better after doing yoga and like that I can get exposure to doing some poses in the comfort of my living room.

Another advantage to Wii Fit yoga is knowing that I’m doing the poses right. Now only does the trainer show you exactly what to do but by using the Wii balance board, you will keep in check your balance and weight distribution. It’s been a really good way to get acquainted with yoga without embarrassing myself.

So far I’m down almost half a pound this week. Wii Fit yoga is definitely helping with weightloss and with feeling better throughout the day.

Live Wii Fit

I just saw a commercial for Wii Fit that was unlike any video game commercial I have ever seen. It advertised LiveWiiFit.com. The commercial was almost like a short infomercial. Of course with the appeal of Wii Fit to non-gamers, it makes sense that their advertisements wouldn’t be typical video game commercials.

Wii Fit has been out for months now and is still selling really well. With this commercial it seemed their target wasn’t gamers but those looking to get in shape. It’s a little strange to see a game that isn’t new being advertised. Still it makes good sense since it is so popular and in demand. Plus with all the new Wii owners in the United States, it’s a good reminder that there is Wii Fit that comes with the Wii balance board that you can use to play other games.

Wii Fit Positive Feedback

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

wiifitboxI have been reading some articles lately that have downplayed the Wii Fit and it’s ability to help people get in shape. One Yahoo! article from Forbes pointed out how a lot of people seem to play the game for a few days and then do not touch it again. Since the article was posted, there have been much praise lefts in comments from people who are using Wii Fit to get into shape.

Wii Fit is being used as part of children’s therapy at hospitals and to motivate employees to exercise. Some people have reported losing weight - double digits even - after they started a workout regime using Wii Fit. I love the one comment from a mom who grounded her son from all his video games except the Wii Fit. Now he’s playing it more than ever and she is hoping to keep him interested in it.

Wii Fit is a fun game and a great way to get moving in the comfort of your home. I do feel better when I play Wii Fit because I feel like I’m doing something for myself which in turn will benefit my family since I will be in better shape. The problem with Wii Fit is that it’s like any other exercise program - you have to make time to do it. For me, it means clearing off a spot to put down the balance board and have room to move. It’s not so easy in our small living room. But there are always excuses when you don’t want to leave your comfort zone.

It is good to read that so many people are not only enjoying Wii Fit but are losing weigh and gettng shape by playing the game.

Wii Fit and Weightloss

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Here is an interesting article about Wii Fit and losing weight. It points out the flaw with the Wii Fit being an effective exercise tool - people are still going to have to put in the work to see the results.

As with most exercise equipment and programs, people tend to play Wii Fit for a few weeks and love it. Then they don’t play as often which then leads to not playing at all. The real culprit to Wii Fit being a long-term exercise solution is monotony. The games are the same each and every time you play. It’s the same moves and once you’ve played it a few times, you naturally lose interest. Also from an exercise standpoint, it’s not really good to do the same thing day in and day out as your body will become used to it. You really need to turn it up a notch to really burn the calories.

One thing I would love to see for Wii Fit is downloadable content. It would be great if through the Wii Shop you could download new fitness games or even Yoga routines that put all the moves together. Also a multi-player mode would be awesome as then you could work out with a buddy either online or in person.

I think Wii Fit is just the beginning when it comes to exercise games. There will be plenty more coming out that will make use of the balance board and hopefully will learn and improve upon the shortcomings of the Wii Fit.

Wii Fit Update

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

I’ve been back using Wii Fit for about two weeks. I have unlocked more games and am finally getting the hang of it. The strength training is an area I’ve yet to explore but hope to as soon as I have the floor space to do it.

One of my favorite Wii Fit games is boxing. It’s exhilarating to play and is so much fun. I wish there was an advanced boxing and that the moves were changed up with each game.

The step aerobics is another favorite. The free step is a lot of fun and a lot of work as you are challenged to take 800 steps in 10 minutes!

So far I’ve lost about 3 pounds. That’s about a pound a week and while I would like to see more fall, I’ll take it as long as it keeps going down. I am using Weight Watchers for dieting and right now Wii Fit is my only exercise.
