Wiikend Wrap June 3rd - 10th

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

It’s been a great week here on the Rally but sadly Virtual Console week must come to an end. I would love to write about all the classics all the time but I must look to the future instead. It hasn’t been easy writing about the Wii lately. To be honest there isn’t that much going on in Wii-land but still I plug away to try and bring you interesting and insightful articles about the little white console. I’ve had my fun, now I have to get back to the business of this generations Wii software.

Speaking of software don’t forget we are only 1 week from the launch of Resident Evil: Wii Edition which comes out on June 19th for a meager 29.99$ So save those allowances or get a job cause you’re not going to want to miss this beautifully fun game when it drops next week.

On to the wrap, Virtual Console-style.

Wiikend Wrap May 20th - 27th

Monday, May 28th, 2007

Hey all it’s wrap up time.

Some of you who happen to read other 451 press blogs may have noticed that our friends at 1pstart have left the network. From what I have heard BB, Kezins and Mazz have moved on to bigger and better things and Wii Rally wishes them all the best in the future. What this means for you Wii gamers out there is that Wii Rally is now the only place on the 451 network where you can wet your Wii whistle.

I’ve been incredibly busy working on a fighting game called 300: Blood and Glory for PC and we are looking at a June 25th completion date. My point is that working on a game and writing an unrelated blog can be tough but I’m not going anywhere and I will try my best to bring you interesting stories everyday.

Now on to the wrap!

MagicCard.jpgAlright my connection problems seem to be at an end but who knows what the future holds. I’m moving in less than two months so things could get broken again. Anyway had a lovely weekend myself played lots of Magic: The Gathering and spent some quality time with friends whom I hadn’t seen in awhile. I also managed to procure a copy of Spider Man 3 (Thanks Brad) which I will be reviewing shortly. So far Brad’s assessment of it being “fun” is holding up but I still maintain that it looks like absolute ass; why does Spider Man 3 look good while Spidy 3 suffers from basic flaws. Different developer? Yes I think so. On to the wrap!

NewHouse.jpgGreetings all, I had a crazy one this weekend. Some of you may know that I graduate this June I’m really excited to enter the next chapter of my life and the next chapter of my career as a budding games writer.

I figured I’d let everyone on a little secret. My girlfriend and I are buying a house but the hose will not only provide us with a place to eat and sleep it will of course be the new home of Wii Rally and Tim Ashdown Publications. I’m going to be launching my own website this summer which will feature my portfolio as well as a personal Blog so you can get all you uncensored Tim craziness. Don’t worry Wii Rally will still be around and the content won’t change. I like writing for 451 Press and will continue to do so as long as I can.

Other than my own uncensored website I’m excited that I will be able to devote a lot more time to writing come July 1st with school done at that point. So be on the look out for my takeover of the intertubes MUAHAHAHAHAHA! On to the Wrap!

Wiikend Wrap X2

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

I would like to start by apologizing to everyone out there for the limited quantity of posts lately. Things have been a little hectic around here. My girlfriend has accepted a new job that requires her to be out of town and it’s been a challenge getting her all set up to be away from home. Also I am working on a fighting game for my school thesis project and that has been eating a lot of my time seeing as how we are still in the concept and design stages of the project. So goes the lament of the game designer, anyway this is an extra special Wiikend Wrap because I didn’t do one last weekend so I’ve decided to combine them. On to the wrap!

SSBBrawlMario.jpgBoys and girls children and gamers of all ages it’s that time of the week again time for another Wii Rally Wiikend Wrap.

This week was pretty hectic on my end, not with Wii Rally but with school. It was the end of term 5/6 for me which means was finishing up another game project which took the form of a Marvel kart racing game starring Spider-man and the Hulk. Back at the ranch the Mushroom Kingdom Hearts debate continues to rage like never before. Hopefully with the May issue of EGM coming in the next couple of weeks we will have our answer once and for all. Even if SquEnix had no plans for such a game they might now. The response to the idea has been quite favorable. Who knows what the future holds? The Shadow?

LowRiseJeans.jpgSorry for the lateness of the Wiikend Wrap this week I have a good excuse. You see what started as a trip to Niagara Falls turned into a 4 day birthday extravaganza for my girlfriend Jen. Friday me a my friend Lisa threw a surprise party for Jen where alcohol was drank and Call of Duty 3 made me dizzy, though paddling a boat with the Wii Remote was hella fun. I then randomly burst into a gangsta rap once the conversation left the topic of games and moved onto low-rise jeans.

Saturday me, Jen and some close friends went for a night of games and gambling in Niagara casino-1 Tim-0. Sunday was a lazy day and today being Monday and Jen’s actual birthday we are going to Tucker’s Market Place for dinner. Jen doesn’t really care where we go for dinner as long as she gets a free birthday meal. Oh and I heard it was St. Patrick’s day or something too. By the way the Kingdom Hearts for Wii debate continues to rage so hop on over to the post and jump in the fray.

Thurstmaster_1.JPG
A lot of stuff happened this week. Some sad news regarding Mario Party 8. Some confusing news about Kingdom Hearts, two journalistic milestones were passed and Shigeru Miyamoto delivered a disappointing GDC keynote speech. Then again Sony’s Phil Harisson was a tough act to follow and sometimes I think people expect a little too much from Miyamoto but giving a 45 minute presentation about your wife and dog ZzzZzzZzz.

As for the journalistic milestones as most of you know I was plagiarised for the first time this week but I’m over that. The second milestone to which I am referring is the receipt of my first freebies since I started writing about video games almost a year ago. Thurstmaster has sent me some samples of their Wii accessories which I am still testing and will be posting reviews for in the coming days to keep your browser locked on Wii Rally and watch for updates.

Wiikend Wrap Feb 26th - March 4th

Sunday, March 4th, 2007

Little light on the posts this week but twas kind of a slow week in regards to the Wii. I think everyone is getting amped up for GDC next week. GDC or Game Developers Conference is held every year in San Francisco by the CMP Group the folks who bring you www.gamasutra.com and Game Developer magazine. It’s where developers both professional and independent will have an opportunity to showcase their work and meet with fellow game developers and talk about well… games.
Since I’m still a child in this industry I shan’t be going this year but hopefully I will be able to make an appearance in 2008.

NeoGeo.jpgIt’s time for another Wiikend wrap up! (Applause)

A couple tidbits for you this weekend. First you may or may not have heard about the possibility of NeoGeo games coming to the Wii’s Virtual Console. According to CVG (Computer Video Games) Nintendo of Japan has confirmed they will be releasing an update to the Virtual Console allowing gamers to play NeoGeo and MSX games. Nintendo wouldn’t tell CVG whether Europe or North America would seeing this update. Now I’ve never owned a NeoGeo or an MSX but the more the merrier.

playnice.jpgAnother strong week here at Wii Rally. Light on the content yet heavy on the opinion. While comments are always welcome on Wii Rally there are a few guidlines that I would like everyone to follow.

1. Please no cursing, it’s just not necessary.
2. Avoid personal attacks. You can rebut their point or argue some one’s opinion but making personal attacks on someone you have never met invalidates you as a rational human being.
3. I as the site administrator retain the right to edit change or delete comments as I see fit. To make sure this does not happen to you please follow the 2 guidelines I have posted above.

So play nice kiddies, On to the wrap.

Wiikend Wrap Up February 5th - 11th

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

Another week has come and gone things got crazy on Monday with the insane response to Wii Rally’s VC Top 5. A lot of people agreed but many did not. Well Seanbaby says “The main reason nerds love best/worst lists is because they want to disagree with things.” Well disagree with this!

Earthbound was lame, hence why North America never saw more than one game in this series.

Goldeneye 64 will never come to the virtual console on account of Microsoft owning Rare, that and it’s really dated for an FPS.

Final Fantasy should have ended with the first one. Square was almost bankrupt for a reason.

I’ll use all the damn commas I want my site my rules HA!
