Monday VC Update
Happy Monday to all. My weekend was good I kept true to my goal and played several hours of Resident Evil 4 with my buddy Brad. I’m also still reeling from last nights action packed premiere of 24 Jack is back to fight the terrorists. So terrorists beware of vampire Jack. Anyway on to new business.
Over the weekend 1pStart, CNN and several other gaming news sites reported on a story where a women in the US died trying to win a Nintendo Wii. A radio station was running a contest titled “Hold your wee for a Wii”. Contestants had to drink all the water they could without urinating (Not very healthy practice). Well one woman couldn’t handle the pressure (sorry bad joke) and scummed to water intoxication resulting in her death. Everyone wants a Wii but they are not worth dying for. So “BOOO HISSS” to the radio station for their tasteless contest and they’re terrible “Wii pun” leave those to me!
On to the lighter side.
A couple more Virtual Console titles hit the Wii Shop channel today.
Xevious™ (NES®, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): Players control their Solvalou ship and destroy the XEVIOUS forces. Fire the zapper missiles against air-based enemies and drop the blaster bombs down upon ground-based targets. Destroy Andor Genesis to earn bonus points. Unique enemies, interesting background music, a variety of vertically scrolling background environments and many hidden game play features differentiated Xevious from the other shooting games released at the time. Are you devious enough to beat Xevious?
R-Type III™: The Third Lightning (Super NES®, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): It was believed on Earth that the deadly BYDO Empire had been destroyed - but now they’ve returned, as nasty as ever. Their ships and armies are more powerful than before, and Earth will surely be conquered unless the new R-90 ship can destroy them. Powered with engines that launch it into different dimensions, and armed with the Round, Shadow and Cyclone Forces, the R-90 has what it takes to wipe out the BYDO threat. The BYDO mother ship must be found and destroyed to entirely erase the species from our galaxy.
Moto Roader™ (TurboGrafx16, 1-5 players, 600 Wii Points): Moto Roader is a futuristic racing game that allows up to five players to compete against each other. Players use the cash earned when they win a race to power up their machine. Not only can they change the “TIRE” and “BODY” of their vehicles, but they also can add “SPECIAL” parts. Jump over tall obstacles with a “HOPPER” and blast past rivals at incredible speeds with “NITRO.” What multiplayer game would be complete without attack items? Use a forward-launching “GRENADE” or a backward-dropping “BOMBER” to blow up and knock away rivals. Outmaneuver rivals in all eight heats to become the champion. Any combination of Wii Remote™ and Nintendo GameCube™ controllers can be used in multiplayer games.
Only 3 games? “Hey Nintendo what’s up with that?!?!

Xvexious… is an awesome game. its a vertical scrolling shooter. really fast high learning curve though. and r type. same sort of game, but a horizontal scrolling screen flies by as enemies charge you from left to right as you relentlessly rip them into shrapnel.
now for the girl dying for a wii. first of all a moment of silence out of respect…………………………………………………………………………………….
and second of all… IT IS AN AMAZING SYSTEM IN WHICH YES, YOU SHOULD DO EXTREEM THINGS TO GET ONE lol, but that is some heart felt dedication. ive seen alot of people with wii’s who didnt deserve them. but this lady stands above the crowd, her and her family definatly deserves a wii.

[...] You Call This Closure? April 3rd, 2007 by Tim A while back my journalistic nose and I were following a story about a radio station in California that held the “Hold Your Wee for a Wii” contest. Which resulted in the death of one Jennifer Strange due to “Water Intoxication”. Following the contest the radio station promptly fired 10 employees who were involved with the promotion. At the time criminal charges were pending, now according to recent reports no criminal charges will be filed against the DJs who administered the contest despite warnings from listeners and a overall lack of common sense.
