Did you know there are over 250 games(on disc) for the Wii? Combine WiiWare and Virtual Console games and the number grows to over 500. Nintendo released that interesting fact and a partial list of games that are due out this year. Here’s a look at some of the games that have an August release date.
There is one new WiiWare game and two Virtual Console games available this week at the Wii Shop. I just bought a Wii SD card to make room as I’m down to around 200 blocks and there are still plenty of games I want.
WiiWare
Major League Eating: The Game (Mastiff, 1-2 players, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older-Crude Humor, 1,000 Wii Points). Grab your Wiimote and chomp down on some food as your race against some of the greatest major-league eaters. Unlock more than 10 characters and play online against friends.
Virtual Console
Donkey Kong 3 (NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points). Obviously the third game in the Donkey Kong series for NES.
NINJA COMMANDO (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older-Mild Language, Fantasy Violence, 900 Wii Points). It’s a side-scrolling challenge where players choose one of three ninjas. The game spans several historic periods like the Stone Age and Japanese Civil War era.
It was Nintendo’s turn to hold a press conference during E3. Some exciting Nintendo titles for the Wii are announced as well a new accessory for the Wiimote.
New game titles that will be discussed in their own post include Wii Music that turns the Wiimote into several musical instruments including a cowbell, Animal Crossing: City Folk, And Wii Sports Resort that comes with Wii MotionPlus accessory. The Wii MotionPlus plugs into the base of the Wiimote and allows players to experience a new level of motion control. The Wii MotionPlus enhances precision and power of the Wiimote. We’ll have a while to wait for it as it is scheduled for release early next year.
Another new accessory is the Wii Speak microphone. Animal Crossing: City Folk will make use of the microphone. Wii Speak allows Internet voice chat among Wii friends.
That’s some exciting news for Wii owners as Nintendo brings more fun and functionality to our favorite console. More E3 news is forthcoming as well as screens of the games announcement by Nintendo.
Want to get up close with wild animals from the comfort of your living room? Then SimAnimals might just be the game you have been looking for.
Players use the Wiimote to touch, grab, and handle wild animals as they take a stroll through the woods. You’ll meet all kinds of wild animals like squirrel, deer, rabbits, and owls. There are also some mischievous animals like foxes, raccoons, and badgers that enjoy stirring up trouble.
Solve challenges and achieve goals that will help the animals thrive. After all, they are depending on you. You can also take up to three friends into the forest in SimAnimals.
The Littlest Pet Shop is another title from the EA Casual Entertainment level and is made possible through a partnership between EA and Hasbro.
The Littlest Pet Shop is basically a sim where players take care of their pet. They can earn Kibble Coins to purchase over 100 accessories for their pets. You earn coins by either playing mini-games or playing in free mode. The game is targeted to girls ages 6-12.
The Littlest Pet Shop will also be released for the Nintendo DS(3 versions) and the PC. It’s due to be available October 2008.
EA is bring Facebreaker K.O. Party to the Wii. This boxing game is specifically designed for the unique controls of the Wii. It also promises to be one of the wackiest matches you’ll play this year.
Once you’ve beaten down an opponent you can use the Wiimote to brand your victory on your opponent’s face. Grab the Wiimote and Nunchuk to deliver punch after punch or to carry out special moves.
Facebreaker K.O. Party will be on shelves in early November 2008.
EA Casual Game Entertainment Label is working on bringing classic board games to the Wii. Hasbro Family Game Night features classic games like Yahtzee, Battleship and Connect Four. It also offers new ways to play your favorite games with games like Reverse Yahtzee and Boggle Portal Cubes.
Mr. Potato Head will accompany you as your family enjoys game night with the Wii. You can create your own game room as well as host a custom game party. Just choose a few options like favorite games, number of players, and duration of games.
Hasbro Family Game Night will be available November 2008.
It’s an exciting week in the world of video games as Los Angeles plays host to the E3 Media and Business Summit. Publishers and developers will be there to show off their upcoming video games to the media.
There is a ton of information about new games for the Wii. Look for as much as I can post here over the next few days and probably beyond.
Game developer Southpeak will be showcasing their new games for the fall at E3. Two of their titles will be released for the Nintendo Wii.
Brave: A Warrior’s Tale - Fall 2008
This sequel to Shaman’s Challenge features an elderly Brave who reflects back on his life. Between stories, players take control of Courage, a young boy who is taking lessons from his elders to stop current threats to the village. Xbox 360 and PSP.
Igor the Game - September 2008
This game is based on the animated movie that is due out later this year. Players will take on the role of one of the main characters: Igor, Eva, Scamper or Brain. Up to four people can play cooperatively. Igor will also be available for the DS and PC.
Next week is E3, the all-media expo and summit held in Los Angeles. Majesco Entertainment has released which games they will be showcasing at the E3 Media and Business Summit. Read the rest of this entry »
New to the Wii Shop this week is one WiiWare title and one virtual console one.
WiiWare -
SPOGS Racing™ (D2C Games™, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone-Mild Cartoon Violence, 1,000 Wii Points) - A new racing game with classic elements for when you grow tired of Mario Kart - if that is even possible.
Virtual Console -
KING OF THE MONSTERS (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older-Fantasy Violence, 900 Wii Points) - An action-fighting game where giant monsters destroy cities. If you like Rampage, then this sounds like one to try.
Our local Wal-Mart has had a bundle featuring Wii points and a classic controller glove on sale for $14.50. They had at least 50 of these units to move, so I felt certain that they would come down even further in price. And they have.
I got 2000 Wii points and a classic controller glove for $12.00. I like to buy Wii points in blocks of 1000 anyway, so for just $2 more I got 1000 more points and a glove.
Not sure if all Wal-Marts have this deal or not but it’s worth checking out.
Are you like me and have been desperately trying to find Wii Fit in stock? Sure, you could pay twice as much as retail and buy it on eBay or Amazon. That option just isn’t very appealing and searching store to store is not only time consuming but uses way too much gas.
WiiTracker.com now has a section to find Wii Fit in stock. Of course, it’s not in stock anywhere but I do like the history. You can actually see that some places have had it in stock in recent days. It gives me hope that I will be able to buy it soon.
For those who have been waiting for Rock Band for the Wii, the wait it over. EA Games released Rock Band for the Wii at the end of June.
There are five bonus tracks for the Wii version of Rock Band. Sadly, this version doesn’t have downloadable content, so those of us who already own Rock Band for another console will not get much out of this new release.
Rock Band is rated Teen. The Rock Band bundle for the Wii retails for $169.99.
